In the high school textbook "Japanese History A" published by Shimizu Shoin (H19/Revised), there is a three-page section titled "Establishment of the Port City of Yokosuka" on pages 156-158, in which the author explains how the Yokosuka Shipyard, established by the shogunate at the end of the Edo period, had an impact on the modernization of the local community and its lifestyle and culture, while showing photographs of Verney and Uenosuke Oguri. Until this textbook was published, no Japanese history textbook had so properly covered the achievements of Kozukenosuke Oguri and the significance of the Yokosuka Shipyard, and I recommend reading this groundbreaking textbook. |

How do textbooks of other publising companies describe "the Japanese Embassy to the U.S. and the envoy Kozukenosuke Oguri" and "Yokosuka"? Many textbooks still give more importance to Kaishu Katsu and the Kanrin Maru than to the Japanese Embassy that went around the world.
